Training Band
Our training band gives new-comers or 'returners' the opportunity to play together to improve their skills and gain confidence. Then, when the time is right, training band members are encouraged to join in with the main band, which plays at various venues throughout the summer.
If you'd like to explore or develop your musical interests, and to have fun doing something that others appreciate, come and join us.
When and where does the training band rehearse?
Rehearsals are from 18:30 to 19:00 on Mondays during school terms. The band's base is The Chase School, Malvern.
What age do I have to be?
We welcome beginners and returners of all ages. One of the joys of brass-banding is the mix of ages in most bands. We have had learners between the ages of 5 and 80. Often, youngsters join along with their parents.
I've never played a brass instrument!
We offer free loan instruments so you can find out what suits you, and free basic tuition to get you started until you feel ready to play with others.
What kind of music do you play?
The band plays an interesting and diverse mix of simple and more complex pieces, allowing players to progressively increase their abilities. The training band puts on one or two performances each year, usually at the Chase School summer fete and during the carolling season. The training band is supported by members of the main band if additional instruments are needed.
How much does it cost?
Participation is free for children attending full-time education. (There is a small charge for adults.)
We also provide free loan instruments and basic tuition.
Where do I go from here?
If you would like to know more about the training band – or, of course, the main band – please get in touch. You are also more than welcome to come along to a rehearsal to meet the band and find out what goes on. For further information contact Peter Hughes at chair@mcbb.uk.
